Hookah!
August 7, 2009
I believe in a life of moderation. It’s a valuable, life-saving happy place, to ride the middle of the fence, only slipping to one side or the other when the grass of the neighbor’s lawns you are running above, truly *is* greener!
The fact is, we all have vices. The trick is to either change it up (so smoke for 10 yrs, but then move on to something else!) or to pick a vice and do it so rarely, it WON’T kill you. This whole Life thing? It’s for enjoying, not careening towards Certain Death. Hey– you heard it here first.
So, I smoke hookah, it’s true. Had my first smoke of hookah in Portland, Or, at the Pied Cow cafe (god bless that place..*sigh)and have been in love ever since. This was approx 8 yrs ago. I did some research, and got my hookah, the single hose Glyph, in green and gold, from www.hookah-shisha.com. Those guys are AMAZING!
I get my fresh tobacco locally at Whelan’s Smoke Shop, on Bancroft.
So I recently did a total overhaul on my hookah, whom some of you have met, Diva. I ordered the following NEW items a few weeks ago:
>new hose!-Cloissone green with flowers
>mouth condoms!
>pre-cut foil-yes I’m a GIRL, and don’t want to carry around a whole roll o’ Reynolds Foil
>Grommets
>Bling! hookah cleanser
>Spice jars-glass, for carrying tobacco! For those of you who’ve seen my recent arrangement, I’m basically bursting with baby food jars, which don’t all fit in my construction box/gothy purse like contraption. I need a new situation, dog.
Doode, my hookah has been going strong for 4 years. And I want many more years outta her yet. MishPen helped me do a massive brass polish jobbie several weekends ago, and she is SHINING her LIGHTS out! I’m so happy for the magical moments of sharing a smoke with friends. Yes, I know my mom will hate this post, but it really is wonderful.
this shot is of my hookah, in my home~
this shot is of me smoking with friends, yes, in the purple wig
These are the most important photos, here, of my tobacco storage system-I use an old fashioned lunch box for construction workers, and line the lid with fabric. I used some spice jars I found on Amazon.com, and labeled them individually.
