Parasols!
April 9, 2009
Parasols, parasols. All I ever THINK about these days is my best friend’s new BABY!! (Welcome! You smell good (I’m assuming, haven’t met you yet in person)! You are so cute! and you have the coolest Mom, which basically insures you will be coolest person!)
So. Ahem. When I’m not thinking of the new bebe, I’m thinking of getting a hold of collapsible parasols that can scrunch down to fit in a briefcase, laptop bag, large purse, etc, and fold out to protect us from the now-evident global warming. Did you know I have to wear SPF 50 to properly block the sun? Sheesh! It’s getting serious out there.
I want to have the handle be wood, preferably bamboo. I want the fabric to be recycled silk, or sustainably made material. I want to treat the fabric with UV protectant. and I want to paint them so the are pretty, then treat the painting so it won’t wash or fade, *too* quickly.
So I did some research using the Internets. It’s a crazy world out there, but I essentially can’t find what I am looking for yet. So I’m off to lunch with an inventor. YAY!
I will let you know how things progress. How do you guys feel about the name–
“Promise’s Practical Parasols” ?
P.S.-you guys have been seriously failing at using the little thumbs up-thingie at the bottom of posts. Please. I’m begging you.

This sounds fabulous! There are so many things out there that can be made more sustainably. This reminds me of a parasol-type thing that I found at Urban Ore. I removed the weird clamp/handle thing so I could carry it better. And the cover was not as fancy as I would have liked, so I created a new cover for it. There is something to be said for re-purposing things as well as making new things.
